Guilbeaux and Hernandez united in Holy Matrimony

Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church was the setting for the 6:30 p.m. November 30, 2012, nuptial mass uniting Mary Therese Guilbeaux of Abbeville and Jonathan Hernandez of Maurice in Holy Matrimony. The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Scott John DesOrmeaux. Concelebrating the mass were Reverend William C. Blanda and Reverend O. Joseph Breaux.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael C. Guilbeaux of Abbeville. She is the granddaughter of the late maternal grandparents, Rita and Robert Bourgeois, and the late paternal grandparents Rosa and Lenis Guilbeaux of Erath. She is a graduate of North Vermilion High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Mary is employed by the Vermilion Parish School System

and is teaching at Indian Bayou Elementary.

The groom is the son of Effie Suire Hernandez and the late Derwin Hernandez. He is the grandson of Mrs. Helen Hernandez of Abbeville and the late Eldest Hernandez and the late maternal grandparents, Hilda and Sabrey Suire of Abbeville. Jonathan graduated from North Vermilion High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The groom was a member of the 1st Platoon, Fox Company, Anti-terrorism Battalion, 23rd Marines, serving two tours in Iraq. He is employed by Halliburton of Lafayette.

Adorned on each door to the entrance of the church were two moss-covered surname initials of the bride and groom symbolizing the union of the two families.

The gown was a trumpet-style silhouette with a V-neck bodice and custom cap-sleeve featuring an open keyhole back and a sweeping train. A matching lace flower hand-beaded with Swarovski crystals was on the front shoulder. Her satin belt was accented with an antique broach. The bride wore a cathedral-length veil of ivory illusion trimmed with a border of French lace.

She carried a bouquet of ivory ranunculus, sweetheart roses, and baby’s breath entwined with a locket worn by her mother on her wedding day, a childhood handkerchief and her deceased grandmother’s rosaries. Something blue was the monogrammed date of her wedding on her childhood handkerchief and wedding gown. Something new was the brides’ wedding dress. Something old was the sixpence worn in her mother’s shoe on her wedding day. Something borrowed was her mother’s pearl earrings worn by the bride’s mother and two sisters on their wedding day.

Serving as matrons of honor were her sisters, Jeanne G. DesOrmeaux and Michelle G. Gisclaire. Bridesmaids were friends of the bride, Riley Granger and Cortni Hebert. Junior bridesmaids were the bride’s nieces, Sarah Blady and Emily Gisclaire.

The bridal attendants wore formal dresses of espresso chiffon. The iridescent chiffon draped formal skirts were accented with a shirred crisscrossed pleated bodice and open keyhole back. The junior bridesmaids wore formal dresses of soft pearl chiffon featuring a shirred sweetheart neckline. The neckline overlapped a shirred waist with a side front ruffle cascading down the formal length of the dress.

The bridal attendants carried a bouquet of bittersweet earth tones of amaryllis and miniature calla lilies hand tied with shantung silk. The junior bridesmaids each carried a bouquet of espresso ranunculus and baby’s breath accented with different shades of espresso feathers hand tied also with shantung silk.

Kate Rose DesOrmeaux, niece of the bride, and Ally Mae David, godchild of the groom, were the flower girls. Both wore an ivory shantung silk formal dress featuring a high waist fitted bodice with a lace overlay and puff sleeves. The widely flared skirt was gathered into the waistband and accented with an espresso tie waist bow. Each carried a handheld kissing ball intertwined with baby’s breath.

The groom wore the traditional Marine Corps Dress Blues. Best men were Coby DesOrmeaux, brother-in-law of the bride, and Derwin Hernandez, father of the groom, in memoriam. Groomsmen were friends of the groom, Lou Hebert, Codey Mire and Jeremy Trahan. They all wore traditional black tuxedos accented with an espresso vest.

Ushers were Christopher Bourgeois, cousin of the bride, and Nick Gisclaire, brother-in-law of the bride.

Scriptures for the ceremony were read by Teesie Landry, friend of the bride, and Connie Suire, aunt of the groom. The mother of the groom was escorted by her son, Jonathan. She wore a champagne-colored two-piece shimmer dress with a beached ruched top, long satin skirt and three-quarter sleeve beaded jacket.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Tommy Guidry, organist; timpanist,The china wholesale bridesmaid dresses. What dress you wear? Ray Theaux; and trumpeter, Jared Gray. Singing vocals were Lindsay LeBlanc, Jennifer Melancon, Shawn Roy and James Segrest.

Following the wedding, a reception was held at Jefferson Island. Each guest table was adored with monogrammed burlap runners with the couples’ initial, lanterns and arrangements of ranunculus and baby’s breath. The bride’s cake was attended by her godmother, Michelle G. Gisclaire. The groom’s cake featured the Marine Corps emblem with his godmother, Donna Flowers, assisting.
